ABSTRACT
Improper umbilical cord care will cause umbilical cord infection with signs of swollen, red and smelly umbilical cord infection (tetanus neonatorum) can cause pain and death of the baby. In developing countries, every year four million babies die in the neonatal period. It is reported that 300,000 babies die from tetanus, and another 460,000 die from umbilical cord infection (omphalitis). The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes of postpartum mothers with newborn umbilical cord care (BBL) in the Simpang Tiga Health Center work area, Pekanbaru City. This type of research is quantitative with a cross-sectional research design. The population of this study was 85 people with a sample of 70 respondents. Sampling using non-probability sampling techniques using the purposive sampling method. Data processing is carried out univariately and bivariately. Based on the chi-square test using a computerized system, the results showed a P-value = 0.000 and a degree of error α = 0.05, so Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, meaning that there is a relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of postpartum mothers with the care of the umbilical cord of newborns (BBL) in the work area of the Simpang Tiga Health Center in Pekanbaru.
